Best designs I’ve ever seen in North America are those that look so European ;)

A nice article for discussing in design classes: The United States of Design. This article described the situation of design in the harsh economic context that our neighbours are facing, but also how design is a growing force in other parts of the world. It is suggested that taking design as a broader discipline is a new trend and a new paradigm, what I like to call “the big umbrella” or “the big D”. The relevance of this discussion for Canadian designers is proportional to Canadian dependency from the States (cultural, economic, political, artistic, scientific… you name it). My advise: if we cannot avoid this dependency, at least let’s try to mimic only the best examples.

Note: Have you noticed that many of the most iconic logos from USA, for example American Airlines or Apple, use Swiss typefaces?
